STRONG SOUTHWESTERLY WINDS ARE EXPECTED TODAY AS DEEP LOW
PRESSURE PASSES ACROSS THE MID ATLANTIC THIS AFTERNOON. THE
SOUTHWESTERLY FLOW WILL CAUSE AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES TO RANGE FROM
THE MID 60S TO THE LOWER 70S...AND DRIVE RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES
TO NEAR 20 TO 30 PERCENT FOR SEVERAL HOURS DURING THE AFTERNOON.
WIND SPEEDS DURING THE AFTERNOON WILL RANGE FROM 15 MPH TO 20
MPH...WITH GUSTS AS HIGH AS 30 MPH FOR MUCH OF THE AREA...POSSIBLY
REACHING 40 MPH ACROSS THE HIGHER RIDGES. THE COMBINATION OF DRY
FUELS...LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY AND GUSTY WINDS WILL HEIGHTEN FIRE
DANGER TODAY.

DANGER ACROSS CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA THIS AFTERNOON. A BREEZY
SOUTHWEST WIND...WITH SUSTAINED SPEEDS OF 15 TO 20 MPH AND GUSTS
BETWEEN 25 AND 30 MPH...WILL DEVELOP THIS AFTERNOON. IN
ADDITION...AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES WILL WARM INTO THE LOWER TO
MIDDLE 70S...WHICH WILL RESULT IN MINIMUM RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES
BETWEEN 20 AND 28 PERCENT.

OUTDOOR BURNING SHOULD BE CLOSELY MONITORED...AND ANY UNATTENDED
FIRE SHOULD BE IMMEDIATELY REPORTED TO THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT.

DRY HIGH PRESSURE WILL BE OVER THE REGION TODAY WHICH WILL
PROMOTE TEMPERATURES WARMING INTO THE 60S TO AROUND 70 OVER MOST
OF WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA. IN RESPONSE...RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES
ARE EXPECTED TO FALL INTO THE MID 20S FOR SEVERAL HOURS. FINE
FUELS WILL BE SLOWLY DRYING AND FUEL MOISTURE MAY REACH CRITICAL
VALUES DURING THE AFTERNOON HOURS. WINDS WILL BE MOSTLY SOUTHWEST
AND INCREASE TO AROUND 10 MPH WITH SOME GUSTS TO 20 MPH OVER THE
HIGHER RIDGE TOPS. THE COMBINATION OF DRY AIR AND FUELS WILL
HEIGHTEN FIRE DANGER.

AN UPPER DISTURBANCE WILL INTERACT WITH A STALLED FRONTAL BOUNDARY
AND INCREASING INSTABILITY DURING AFTERNOON HEATING TO PRODUCE
SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS TODAY. A FEW STORMS COULD BECOME SEVERE...
MAINLY BETWEEN 2 PM AND 10 PM... AND GENERALLY ALONG AND WEST OF A
SUMMERVILLE TO STONE MOUNTAIN TO SWAINSBORO LINE... WHICH INCLUDES
THE ATLANTA METRO AREA.

A SERIES OF UPPER DISTURBANCES COMBINED WITH MARGINAL INSTABILITY
