Excessive Heat Continues for the Pacific Northwest; Flooding Impacts Expected in the Southwest U.S.

A dangerous heat wave persists for the Northwest into portions of California today with excessive heat warnings and heat advisories in effect. Temperatures will trend well below normal through the upcoming weekend before warming back up into next week.
A signficant surge of monsoonal moisture arrives Friday night through Saturday, bringing widespread showers and storms. This will result in a heightened risk of flash flooding for much of northern and central NM.
Table indicates the probability for thunderstorms over wildfire burn areas. Storm motion and atmospheric moisture content are also listed as these factors can have considerable influence on the risk for burn scar flash flooding. Storm motion is the direction that storms will move toward. This product is experimental and for planning purposes only.
Dewpoint temperature is one of many parameters used to monitor moisture surges of the North American Monsoon across the Southwest U.S.
