Strong to damaging winds are expected for many areas today. Gusts to around 60 to 65 mph are possible. Relatively minor accumulations of snow are possible over the northern mountains today, where locally reduced visibilities in blowing snow are possible ,mainly through passes and across open areas. Colder air will push into the north and west as well.
Strong to potentially damaging winds are forecast through Tuesday evening as a storm system passes through New Mexico. Winds will first focus along the Central Mountain Chain early Tuesday morning before spreading to lower elevations by late morning into the afternoon.
A quick hitting storm system producing widespread high winds will also bring light to modest snow accumulations to the northern mountains today. The highest accumulations of 3 to 6 inches will focus over the Tusas Mountains. Blowing snow is likely to occur over the passes and open areas of the Tusas and Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
A quick moving storm system will usher in cooler temperatures through Wednesday. Temperatures recover by Friday to above normal values.
A quick moving system will bring chances for snow to northern New Mexico today. Drier conditions are expected mid week before chances for showers and mountain rain and snow increase beginning Friday and continuing into the weekend.
