Several supercell thunderstorms developed along a very strong warm front and produced eight tornadoes from Akaska to Bowdle to Hecla. The largest of the tornadoes was an EF4 tornado which occurred near Bowdle, SD. This was the first EF4 tornado in South Dakota since the destructive F4 tornado on June 24, 2003 near Manchester, SD.
