The prolonged period of very warm temperatures will continue today. In addition, the humidity will be elevated which will push heat indices into the 95 to 105 range for much of the area. The highest heat indices will occur from mid-afternoon into the very early evening. If you have outdoor plans, be sure to drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks in the shade.

Saturday will be much less humid and about 10 degrees cooler.

  • What: Heat indices of 95 to 105
  • Where: Much of the area - highest in the Mississippi and Wisconsin river valleys.
  • Timing: Warmest temperatures and heat indices in the mid-afternoon to early evening
  • Impacts: Heat-related illnesses can occur in as little as 30 minutes. Children, pets and the elderly as especially susceptible to the heat
  • ACTION: Avoid prolonged exposure to the heat - postpone or reschedule outdoor activities. Stay hydrated!
