Overview

During the early morning to early afternoon hours on Sunday, February 24, 2019, strong northwesterly winds pushed through eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota causing widespread blowing snow in open country.

Whiteout conditions and severe snow drifting made travel difficult to impossible in some locations. While even worse conditions were reported across southern Minnesota (where nearly a foot of fresh snow had fallen in the previous days), parts of Interstate 29 were closed and "No Travel Advised" alerts were issued for much of northeast ND and northwest MN from Sunday morning through Sunday afternoon.
