A winter storm affected parts of the region on December 22nd bringing periods of heavy snow and even some freezing drizzle after the snow fell.  An intense band of snow developed across central North Dakota during the morning hours and moved north/northeast through the day.  Snow rates where typically around 1 inch per hour and snow quickly piled up.  The heaviest snow fell across a portion of northeast North Dakota where the snow band slowed down, or even became stationary for a brief period.  The majority of the snow occurred during the afternoon hours which increased travel impacts for the evening commute.
