Addition of Avalanche Watches for the San Francisco Peaks and Kachina Peaks Wilderness beginning March 15, 2026

Effective on or about March 15, 2026, the NWS Weather Forecast Office in Flagstaff, AZ will begin relaying Avalanche Watch (AVA) products for the San Francisco Peaks and the Kachina Peaks Wilderness in Arizona on behalf of the Kachina Peaks Avalanche Center. Read More >

Effective on or about March 15, 2026, the NWS Weather Forecast Office in
Flagstaff, AZ will begin relaying Avalanche Watch (AVA) products for the
San Francisco Peaks and the Kachina Peaks Wilderness in Arizona on behalf
of the Kachina Peaks Avalanche Center.

In accordance with state and local Emergency Alert Services (EAS) plans,
Avalanche Watches from alerting authorities may be disseminated via NOAA
Weather Radio Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME) and the Emergency
Alert System.

The products will have the following AWIPS ID and WMO header:

------------             --------     -----------
Avalanche Watch          AVAFGZ       WOUS45 KFGZ

Users may need to update their databases to begin receiving
these messages.
