Student Volunteer Program |
Experience what a career in the National Weather Service entails!
Eligibility:
- College students entering their junior or senior year, or graduate students. Recent graduates will also be considered.
- Those who demonstrate strong interest in a National Weather Service career.
- Successful applicants will be subject to mandatory security and background checks.
Expectations/Outcomes:
- Gain familiarity with the process for generating routine NWS forecasts
- Experience and assist with real-time severe weather operations
- Participate in office outreach activities. NWS Flagstaff summer volunteers may take advantage of opportunities to visit neighboring NWS offices in Las Vegas, Phoenix, and/or Tucson as well.
Schedule:
- The program will last for approximately 8-12 weeks in a window from mid-June through mid-August.
- 2-3 shifts per week, approximately 10 hours per week. Shifts will mostly be during weekdays, but some weekend shifts may be accommodated.
