Critical to Extreme Fire Weather Threats Continues in Southern California; Strong Cold Front in the Eastern half of U.S.

Strong offshore winds in southern California will keep Fire Weather threats Critical-to-Extreme into mid-week. A strong cold front from the Southern Plains to the Great Lakes is slowly moving eastward. A broad area of snow will continue from the Rockies into the Middle Mississippi Valley. A BRIEF TORNADO OCCURRED SUNDAY EVENING, APRIL 12 2015 IN SMITH
COUNTY KANSAS. A COMBINATION OF PHOTOS...RADAR DATA AND PERSONAL
ACCOUNTS WERE USED TO DETERMINE THE APPROXIMATE LOCATION OF THE
TORNADO.

THE TORNADO WAS RATED AN EF-0 WITH A MAXIMUM WINDSPEED OF 75 MPH.
THE TORNADO WAS BRIEF AND LIKELY HAD AN INTERMITTENT PATH AS IT
TRAVERSED RURAL AREAS FROM ABOUT 3 MILES NORTH OF SMITH CENTER TO
3 MILES NORTH NORTHEAST OF SMITH CENTER. THE TORNADO HAD A PATH OF
ABOUT 1 MILE AT MOST. PRIOR TO THE TORNADO ITSELF...THE SEVERE
THUNDERSTORM PRODUCED A FUNNEL OR MULTIPLE FUNNELS ALONG AND
NORTH OF HIGHWAY 36...MAINLY WEST OF SMITH CENTER. MANY PEOPLE IN
THE COUNTY WERE ABLE TO SEE THE STORM CHARACTERISTICS AS IT MOVED
EAST ACROSS THE CENTRAL PART OF THE COUNTY.
