On Wednesday, March 16th, the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Lake Charles hosted its first Media Day. The goals of Media Day were to share information on local NWS programs and to strengthen the partnership between our office and the local television meteorologists. A number of staff members gave presentations on subjects such as hydrologic services, tsunamis and offshore & upper air observations. Presentations were also given on cool season forecasting techniques, as well as NWS products and local criteria. A warning situation simulation was set up so that each of the television meteorologists could see how we issue tornado, severe thunderstorm and flash flood warnings. The attendees were also able to witness the weekly NOAA Weather Radio alert test. Both office staff members and the local media greatly enjoyed the event and believed it was well worth it.
