Locally Heavy Rainfall Possible Over the Four Corners; Critical Fire Weather Conditions in the Great Basin

Monsoon moisture will result in locally heavy showers and thunderstorms over the Four Corners region, which could lead to flash flooding. While, critical fire weather threats are expected for much of the Great Basin, from dry and windy conditions. Finally, Tropical Cyclone Humberto remains well offshore of the Southeast, but rip currents and heavy surf are expected from Florida to the Carolinas. Read More >

Changes in soil moisture affect how precipitation behaves when it reaches the ground. Generally, higher soil moisture increases the potential for water from precipitation to reach streams & rivers. Soil moisture can be measured or modeled. Knowledge of soil moisture content tends to improve river forecasts.
