A widespread and significant flood risk continues across the south-central U.S. from repeated rounds of intense rain and strong to severe thunderstorms. Flash flood watches are in effect for large part of the ArkLaTex. Today's concern extends from the Louisiana and extreme Upper Texas Gulf Coast to northeastern Texas and southeastern Oklahoma before shifting to all of eastern Texas on Wednesday. Read More >

The following statistics comprises 148 years of data, however snowfall data began in 1884, so that element comprises of 136 years of data. Data collection began at the University of Chicago, then at Midway, and currently at O'Hare which is now the official station for Chicago.

Frequency distribution of high temperatures for Chicago. This dataset shows that the most frequent range of high temperatures on Thanksgiving is in between 40 and 49 degrees, however the range of 30-39 degrees is not that far behind. Since Thanksgiving doesn’t always occur on the same day, there is no normal high. The highest temperature recorded on Thanksgiving is 69 degrees set on November 24^th, 1966. The coldest high temperature on Thanksgiving is 14 degrees which occurred on November 27^th, 1930.


Frequency distribution of low temperatures for Chicago. This dataset shows that the most frequent range of low temperatures on Thanksgiving is in between 30 and 39 degrees. The lowest temperature recorded on Thanksgiving is -1 which occurred on November 23^rd, 1950. The highest low temperature for Thanksgiving was 57 degrees in 1896.

Frequency distribution of precipitation for Chicago. This dataset shows that the most frequent amount of precipitation recorded on Thanksgiving is 0.00”, which accounts for 43% of the days in the dataset. The next most frequent range is 0.02” to 0.25”, closely followed by a trace of precipitation. The highest amount of precipitation on Thanksgiving occurred on November 28^th, 1968 when 1.56” of precipitation fell. This is the only instance of where over an inch of precipitation fell on Thanksgiving.

Frequency distribution of snowfall for Chicago. This dataset shows that the most frequent amount of snowfall recorded on Thanksgiving is 0.0”, which accounts for 72% of the days in the dataset. The next most frequent range is a Trace, followed by 0.1” to 0.9”. The highest amount of snowfall recorded on Thanksgiving occurred on November 27^th, 1980 when 3.0” of snow fell.
