Last Map Update: Sun, Dec 14, 2025 at 7:26:36 am CST

A cold air mass has arrived across the South Plains region and will result in much colder temperatures today. After some morning cloud cover dissipates, mostly sunny skies can be expected, but highs will only reach from the upper 30s northeast to the mid 40s along the New Mexico line.
Temperatures will climb back into the 60s and 70s each day this week, well above normal for December. Quiet and dry weather is expected to continue.

Local Weather History For December 14th...
1959 (14th-15th): A significant ice storm inflicted heavy damage to transmission lines from about a 60 mile radius
centered on Amarillo and west to northeast New Mexico. This was the worst ice storm in the region since November 1940. Ice
accumulated to about two pounds per foot on all exposed objects such as power lines, poles and trees. Heavy snow along the
New Mexico border stranded motorists and closed schools.
