...The Threat of Heavy Rainfall for Much of Arkansas Will Be
Increasing in the Coming Days...

Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected over
Arkansas through much of this week.

In a large portion of the state...in particular the central and
western thirds...rainfall has been well above average over the
last several weeks. Locations in the Ozarks and Ouachita Mountains
are running in excess of 200 percent of normal rainfall over the
last 30 days.

With high moisture levels in the atmosphere, any storms will be
efficient rainfall producers. Storms forming and moving across the
same areas over several days, along with rain falling on already
saturated ground will significantly increase the threat of flash
flooding.

The heavy rain will also cause rises on area rivers. The
significance of the rises will depend on where the heaviest rain
falls. At this time, the highest concern will be for areas along
the Ouachita, Fourche Lafave, and Petit Jean Rivers. There will
also be increased potential for rises on the Arkansas River as
well.

Across eastern Arkansas, portions of the Black, as well as the White
and Cache Rivers are expected to remain above flood stage. Any
falls that are in progress will likely be slowed, with additional
rises not out of the question.

Though there is still a degree of uncertainty with regards to
where exactly the heaviest rain will fall and how much will fall,
it is important to continue to monitor the latest forecasts.
