Short-range GFS MOS Products

GFS-based forecast guidance from 6 to 72 hours in advance, for over 1500 stations in the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. This message is generated four times a day, at 0000, 0600, 1200 and 1800 UTC. For details about the products, see the About MAV page. 

Note to users:

MOS products are no longer being developed as stand-alone products, and we are considering gradually phasing them out in the next couple of years (this does not include LAMP and GLMP products). MAV Full Text Messages will be available in the following directory, in the following directory/files:
gfsmos.YYYYMMDD/mdl_gfsmav.tCCz, where YYYYMMDD is the run datestamp, and CC is the cycle.

Other Data

Messages can be found on NWS FTP Server (TGFTP). On this server, GRIB files are stored in directories called RD.YYYYMMDD, where YYYYMMDD is the year, month and day. Within the RD.YYYYMMDD directory, the files will be named cy.XX.txt, where XX is the cycle. These data will be available for two days.
