MDL supports a number of standards and committees across several organizations.
MDL has two technical members sitting on WMO's Task Team for Aviation XML (TT_avXML). MDL has represented the NWS in the past two meetings (2014 in Geneva, and 2015 in Hong Kong)
MDL provided a informational paper to the Working Group on Meteorological Information Exchange (WG-MIE) in December 2015.
The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is an international not for profit organization committed to making quality open standards for the global geospatial community. These standards are made through a consensus process and are freely available for anyone to use to improve sharing of the world's geospatial data. (For more information on the OGC, please see: https://www.opengeospatial.org/).
The Domain Working Group (DWG) is a community orientated working group of the OGC. The DWG does not directly revise or create OGC standards, but rather enables collaboration and communication between groups with meteorological and oceanographic interests. The DWG brings together OGC members in an open forum greatly improving the way in which this information is described, shared, and used.
The Standards Working Group (SWG) develops the candidate OGC standard that will support encoding in a variety of exchange scenarios. The group coordinates a public comment period, processes any comments received during this period, and then submits the standard to the OGC. The final deliverable of the SWG will be a version of the candidate standard for consideration by the OGC membership for approval as an OGC standard.
By taking an increased role in the development of standards, MDL improves interoperability, eg, the capability of different services and programs to exchange data via a common set of exchange formats using the same protocols.
