Winter/Spring Flood Outlook #13 Northern & Eastern Maine Ice Out Complete on all Rivers OVERVIEW: The Flood Outlook is Below Normal for all of Eastern & Northern Maine. SNOWPACK (SD) & SNOW WATER EQUIVALENT (SWE) “T” = Trace Northern Basins: Mainly bare grounds except small amounts in colder forested areas. Elevations above 750ft, along and west of Route 11 there remains 5-15” of SD w/ 1-3” of SWE. SD & SWE below normal. Central Highlands, Moosehead & Baxter Regions: Any snow (5-15”) confined to higher elevations of Baxter SP. SD & SWE below normal. SD & SWE below normal. Downeast to Bangor Basins: Bare ground. SD & SWE below normal. RIVER ICE All Regions: Free and clear on all rivers. RIVER FLOW STATUS Northern Basins: Normal to Above Normal. Central Highlands, Moosehead & Baxter Regions: Below Normal. Downeast to Bangor Basins: Below Normal. Areawide Trends: Expect flows to continue slowly fall. PRECIPITATION & TEMPERATURE OUTLOOK Temperatures: Near Normal to Slighty Above Normal Precipitation: Near Normal to Slightly Above Normal. Pattern: Upper level disturbance to keeps the region cooler with light precipitation chances. Into the second half of the outlook slight warming as the ridge to our west collapses and upper disturbance to the east leaves the region. Expecting slight warming trend with very little if any precipitation expected. FROST DEPTH Northern Basins: 10-22” Deep (5-10” Surface Thaw), Central & Downeast: Thawed. GROUNDWATER Below Normal to near Normal due to ongoing Drought. Recharge is occurring.
