Winter/Spring Flood Outlook #14 Northern & Eastern Maine This is the Final Outlook for the 2026 Season OVERVIEW: The Flood Outlook is Below Normal for all of Eastern & Northern Maine. SNOWPACK (SD) & SNOW WATER EQUIVALENT (SWE) “T” = Trace Northern Basins: Trace amounts remaining in the deeper colder forest. Central Highlands, Moosehead & Baxter Regions: Only confined to Katahdin. Downeast to Bangor Basins: Bare ground. RIVER ICE All Regions: Free and clear on all rivers. RIVER FLOW STATUS Northern Basins: Normal across St. John River Basin except Below Normal on Aroostook River & Meduxnekeag River. Central Highlands, Moosehead & Baxter Regions: Below Normal to Much Below Normal. Downeast to Bangor Basins: Below Normal to Much Below Normal. Areawide Trends: Expect flows to rise slowly with widespread rainfall. PRECIPITATION & TEMPERATURE OUTLOOK Temperatures: Near Normal to Slighty Above Normal Precipitation: Above Normal. Pattern: Persistent upper-level troughing will remain anchored over the Northeast, maintaining an unsettled and unseasonably cool pattern across the region. Frequent chances for precipitation, combined with near to below-normal temperatures, will provide highly beneficial relief for ongoing drought conditions and help recharge low streamflows. FROST DEPTH All Basins: Thawed with soil temperatures rapidly rising. GROUNDWATER Below Normal to near Normal due to ongoing Drought. Recharge is occurring.
