Some signals that drought may develop in northeast Colorado by November. 1 U.S. Drought Monitor Link to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor for High Plains Drought intensity and Extent by County D0 (Dry): Red Willow, Decatur, Norton, Wichita. Comments Due to above normal rainfall in August, no drought is currently indicated in the Tri State area. Some abnormally dry areas persist. Star is centered on Goodland in all following maps. Drought Worsened: a small area of abnormally dry conditions in Wichita County, Kansas. No Change: none. Drought Improved: areas in green, including parts of northwest Kansas and southwest Nebraska. Comments Improvements of up to two categories due to above normal rain in August. August Precipitation - Tri-State Area Actual precipitation amounts in August ranged from 2” to 6”, highest amounts in blue. August precipitation compared to normal shows above normal in most of the area (green shading). August Precipitation - Local Highlight Comments 3” to 7” of rain was reported in Hitchcock, Red Willow, Rawlins, Decatur and Norton counties in August.
