Additional heavy rain in April resulted in elimination of remaining drought areas. U.S. Drought Monitor Additional periods of heavy rain in April led to removal of all remaining drought areas This does not include D0, which is considered a transition state into or out of drought. Drought intensity and Extent D3 (Extreme Drought): None. D2 (Severe Drought): None. D1 (Moderate Drought): None. D0: (Abnormally Dry): Central valley of Maui and portions of the Big Island. None: All remaining areas not covered by D0. Recent Change in Drought Intensity One Week Drought Monitor Class Change. One category improvement over small portions of interior and far eastern Big Island. No changes elsewhere. Four Week Drought Monitor Class Change. One category improvement over much of interior Big Island and a few small areas in the far east and southwest parts of the island. No Change: Rest of the state. Precipitation Widespread rainfall over Kauai, with mainly windward and mauka rainfall across the remainder of the state. Mostly from a frontal system passage April 7th through 11th. Most of the state had above-average rainfall for April Exceptions included the Hāmākua and Hilo Districts and northern coasts of Molokaʻi and Maui. Summary of Impacts No current water shortages in effect from the various county water supply boards/departments. Agricultural Impacts None known. Fire Hazard Impacts None. Other Impacts None. Drought Outlook The latest monthly and seasonal outlooks can be found on the CPC homepage Remaining drought is expected to end over the Big Island within the next 3 months. No drought expected elsewhere. Currently ENSO-neutral conditions. El Niño likely to emerge (82% chance) by early summer, with a 96% chance of continuing through the winter. Most recent Climate Prediction Center forecast favors above-normal precipitation through the summer and into early autumn over the entire state, mainly due to forecasted El Niño conditions.
