U.S. Drought Monitor MODERATE DROUGHT IN PLACE ACROSS NEARLY HALF OF CENTRAL INDIANA Drought intensity and Extent D1 (Moderate Drought): Bartholomew, Boone, Brown, Clay, Daviess, Decatur, Greene, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Jackson, Jennings, Johnson, Lawrence, Madison, Marion, Martin, Monroe, Morgan, Owen, Shelby, Sullivan, Tipton D0 (Abnormally Dry): Carroll, Clinton, Delaware, Fountain, Henry, Howard, Knox, Montgomery, Parke, Putnam, Randolph, Rush, Tippecanoe, Vermillion, Vigo Recent Change in Drought Intensity Four Week Drought Monitor Class Change 2 class improvement over Warren, Knox, and Daviess counties 1 class improvement over the majority of central Indiana counties Hamilton, Marion, Hancock, Morgan, Johnson, and Shelby counties unchanged Precipitation For most of central Indiana, precipitation over the past 30 days has been 100-150% of normal, with a few small pockets of 75 to 100% Temperature For most of central Indiana, average temperatures over the last month have been 2 to 4 degrees above normal Summary of Impacts Hydrologic Impacts Low flow on some area rivers and streams, but many have returned to normal Low pond and lake levels Agricultural Impacts Soil moisture still dry but improving Groundwater slow to recharge Fire Hazard Impacts None reported Other Impacts None reported Mitigation Actions None reported Hydrologic Conditions and Impacts Streamflow has returned to normal across the state, with above normal flow along the upper and middle Wabash basins as well as the lakeshore and along the Ohio River Agricultural Impacts Soil moisture is still dry, but has shown some improvement Seven Day Precipitation Forecast The seven day precipitation total forecast shows 0.5 to 0.75 inches of precipitation across much of the state, with 0.75 to 1.0 inch across southwestern Indiana and higher amounts along the lakeshore due to lake effect snows Long-Range Outlooks The latest monthly and seasonal outlooks can be found on the CPC homepage February outlooks lean toward above normal temperatures over the northern half of the state and equal chances for all outcomes over southern Indiana, with a stronger signal for below normal precipitation Drought Outlook The latest monthly and seasonal outlooks can be found on the CPC homepage Drought is expected to persist across parts of central and south central Indiana over the next three months
