Potential for Severe Weather and Heavy Rain in the South this Weekend

A low pressure system moving across the southern Gulf States will bring a threat of isolated severe thunderstorms containing hail and damaging winds this weekend. Fire Weather threats remain elevated for portions of western Texas and along the New Mexico border on Saturday. Showers and isolated storms will move into western Oklahoma.
Rain is expected to become widespread after midnight, spreading from west to east across much of the area.
Widespread rain is expected to continue on Saturday. Beneficial rainfall amounts look to occur across Oklahoma and western north Texas. Rainfall totals of one-half inch to almost 2 inches are possible, with the higher totals most likely across central and southeast Oklahoma.
Rain will end from west to east through the night.
These are forecast average rainfall amounts for late Friday through early Sunday. Some locations may get substantially less than indicated. Locally heavier amounts are possible.
