SIGNIFICANT FLOODING IS EXPECTED ON SOME AREA RIVERS

 

BACKGROUND AND FORECAST

 

Monday afternoon through Tuesday night, 1.5 to 3 inches, with some localized 4 to 5 inch amounts, fell across the region. An additional 2 to 5 inches, again with locally heavier amounts, is expected to fall through Friday morning. Considering the amount of rain that has fallen, and the amount of rain that is forecast to fall, significant flooding is forecast for portions of the New, Dan, and Roanoke (Staunton) Rivers.

 

MODERATE FLOODING MEANS...

 

When moderate flooding is forecast, you can expect the following at and near the location of of concern.

  • Buildings and other structures inundated with water
  • Many roads near the river covered with water, likely closed
  • Water rescues possible

 

MAJOR FLOODING MEANS...

 

When major flooding is forecast, you can expect the following at and near the location of concern.

  • Numerous buildings and structures inundated with water
  • Numerous roads near the river covered with water, likely closed
  • Evacuations likely
