Elevated fire weather conditions are possible today mainly south of the North Platte River valley, primarily in the morning to early afternoon hours with RH expected to drop to around 20%. A strong cold front moving down from the north will improve conditions during the afternoon and evening. Expect scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms this afternoon, mainly along the I-80 corridor. As usual, these will have the potential to produce gusty and erratic winds. Big changes are expected overnight as widespread precipitation fills in over the area. Rain will change over to snow as colder air moves in. Accumulating snow is expected in portions of southeast Wyoming, mainly above 5500 in elevation with Laramie, Albany, southwest Platte, eastern Carbon counties favored. Wetting rainfall is likely for most of the area, with the exception of areas north of a Douglas to Alliance line. Due to the widespread precipitation, fire weather concerns will be minimal Tuesday, but may creep up again as early as Wednesday in the areas that do not receive moisture from this storm system.
