AKZ732-061500-
/O.CON.PAFC.BZ.W.0009.000000T0000Z-251207T1500Z/
Thompson Pass-
Including the cities of Thompson Pass
1156 AM AKST Fri Dec 5 2025

...BLIZZARD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM AKST SUNDAY...

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions expected. Total snow accumulations
between 7 and 14 inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 60
mph. Wind chills falling to as low as 35 below zero by Sunday
  morning.

* WHERE...Thompson Pass.

* WHEN...Until 6 AM AKST Sunday.

* IMPACTS...Visibilities reduced to one quarter mile or less due to
snow and blowing snow. Travel could be very difficult. Frostbite
may occur in as little as 10 minutes on exposed skin.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...An arctic airmass will drive colder air and
strong winds through Thompson Pass beginning later today. The
combination of snow already on the ground, along with additional
snowfall expected and strong gap winds, will likely lead to snow
and blowing snow that may severely reduce visibility. Snow is
likely to taper off starting Sunday morning, however, gusty winds
  will persist.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions, making travel very hazardous. If you must travel, have a
winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your
vehicle.

For the latest road conditions call 5 1 1 or visit 511.alaska.gov.

Persons are urged to stay indoors until conditions improve. If you
must go outside, dress in layers. Several layers of clothes will
keep you warmer than a single heavy coat. Cover exposed skin to
reduce your risk of frostbite or hypothermia. Gloves, a scarf, and a
hat will keep you from losing your body heat.

Persons should delay all travel if possible. If travel is absolutely
necessary, drive with extreme caution and be prepared for sudden
changes in visibility. Leave plenty of room between you and the
motorist ahead of you, and allow extra time to reach your
destination. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration, and be especially
cautious on hills or when making turns. Make sure your car is
winterized and in good working order.

Winter Storm Warning

URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
National Weather Service Juneau AK
203 PM AKST Fri Dec 5 2025

...SNOW FOR THE NORTHERN PANHANDLE THIS WEEKEND...

.A pattern change will bring colder temperatures and strong
outflow winds extending southward starting Friday night. Forecast
confidence continues to increase that this pattern change, in
combination with prolonged moisture, will produce accumulating
heavy snow for the Haines and Klondike highways and communities
of the northern panhandle. Forecast confidence is that Advisory
level snowfall will be moving into Yakutat. Confidence has
increased that the Icy Strait Corridor could see significant
snowfall accumulations Sunday to Monday. Heavy precipitation
rates begin to reach Yakutat late Friday into early Saturday. The
main forecast challenge over the Yakutat area continues to be the
timing of when precipitation will become all snow which now looks
to be late Friday night. The snow forecast for the Icy Strait
Corridor is more likely to be Sunday and lasting into early next
week, so we will continue to monitor and update the snow forecast.
Cold temperatures are expected to continue to spread southward
into early next week, increasing potential for a long duration
snowfall event.

Winter Storm Watch
