National Weather Service Anchorage AK
436 AM AKST Sun Dec 7 2025

AKZ732-072100-
/O.EXT.PAFC.BZ.W.0009.000000T0000Z-251207T2100Z/
Thompson Pass-
Including the cities of Thompson Pass
436 AM AKST Sun Dec 7 2025

...BLIZZARD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON AKST TODAY...

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions. Additional snow accumulations less
than an inch. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph.

* WHERE...Thompson Pass.

* WHEN...Until noon AKST today.

* IMPACTS...Visibilities reduced to one quarter mile or less due to
blowing and drifting of snow. Travel could be very difficult.
Frostbite may occur in as little as 10 minutes on exposed skin.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...An arctic airmass will continue to drive
colder air and strong winds through Thompson Pass. The combination
of snow already on the ground and strong gap winds will continue
to produce areas of blowing snow that may severely reduce
visibility. Winds will gradually start to decrease this afternoon.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Blowing snow with strong winds and poor
visibilities are likely. If you must travel, have a winter survival
kit with you. Leave plenty of room between you and the motorist
ahead of you, and allow extra time to reach your destination. Avoid
sudden braking or acceleration, and be especially cautious on hills
or when making turns. Make sure your car is winterized and in good
working order. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle.

For the latest road conditions call 5 1 1 or visit 511.alaska.gov.

Persons are urged to stay indoors until conditions improve. If you
must go outside, dress in layers. Several layers of clothes will
keep you warmer than a single heavy coat. Cover exposed skin to
reduce your risk of frostbite or hypothermia. Gloves, a scarf, and a
hat will keep you from losing your body heat.

Winter Storm Warning

URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
National Weather Service Juneau AK
937 AM AKST Sun Dec 7 2025

...SNOW FOR THE PANHANDLE THIS WEEKEND...

.The next band of precipitation is expected to move through
Sunday morning. Cold, stable, dry air moving in from Canada is
currently preventing most moisture from reaching Gustavus, Juneau,

fine flakes, limiting accumulation. Therefore, the winter storm
warnings in the aforementioned areas were replaced with winter
weather advisories to reflect the snow rates for the remainder of
the event.

The arctic boundary is currently just south of the Angoon area,
with snow expected to begin in Kake in the afternoon hours. The
next system moving up from the south for Monday look to bring
additional accumulation to the southern panhandle, including
Petersburg, Wrangell, and Prince of Wales Island.

Winter Storm Watch

URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
National Weather Service Juneau AK
937 AM AKST Sun Dec 7 2025

...SNOW FOR THE PANHANDLE THIS WEEKEND...

.The next band of precipitation is expected to move through
Sunday morning. Cold, stable, dry air moving in from Canada is
currently preventing most moisture from reaching Gustavus, Juneau,
and Haines. The lack of saturation is causing the snow to fall as
fine flakes, limiting accumulation.
