  mph.

At 459 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 24
miles north of Ute Park, or 29 miles west of Raton, moving east at
less than 10 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and nickel size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead

...Heavy wildfire smoke will impact southeastern Utah through at
least Saturday night...

Heavy wildfire smoke from fires in northern Arizona will continue
to bring significant near surface smoke into portions of the Grand
Staircase, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area/Lake Powell,
portions of Capitol Reef National Park, the San Rafael Swell and
western Canyonlands through at least Saturday night.

This heavy smoke may reduce visibility to or below 2 miles at
times on area roadways as well as on Lake Powell. The U.S.
Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program air
quality forecast suggests air quality will fall to unhealthy for
sensitive groups to very unhealthy for all groups at times through
the afternoon into the overnight hours especially across eastern
portions of the Grand Staircase and Glen Canyon/Lake Powell. When
conditions reach these levels, everyone should consider avoiding
outdoor physical activity.

FRIDAY UNTIL 900 AM SATURDAY...

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has
issued the following...

WHAT...Air Quality Health Advisory for Wildfire Smoke.

WHERE...Mesa County. Locations include, but are not limited to
Gateway and Grand Junction.

WHEN...900 AM Friday July 25 to 900 AM Saturday July 26

IMPACTS...Smoke will continue to affect the advisory area on
Friday and Saturday. Heavy smoke is expected in areas in close
proximity to the Turner Gulch Fire in southern Mesa County,
including Gateway. Moderate smoke impacts are anticipated on
Friday morning in other areas of Mesa County, however additional
smoke production and transport from fires in other states may
increase concentrations across the advisory area starting Friday
afternoon, including Grand Junction.

HEALTH INFORMATION...Public Health Recommendations: If smoke is
thick or becomes thick in your neighborhood you may want to remain
indoors. This is especially true for those with heart disease,
respiratory illnesses, the very young, and older adults. Consider
limiting outdoor activity when moderate to heavy smoke is present.
Consider relocating temporarily if smoke is present indoors and is
making you ill. If visibility is less than 5 miles in smoke in
your neighborhood, smoke has reached levels that are unhealthy.

This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of central...east
central...south central and southeast Colorado.

.DAY ONE...This Afternoon and Tonight

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected this afternoon
through early evening, with the main risks being outflow winds
gusting to 55 mph and frequent lightning. A few stronger storms
may also produce large hail and flash flooding. Any areas that saw
flooding earlier this week may see flooding again today if storms
manage to move over the same locations.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday

Isolated showers and thunderstorms will be possible on Saturday,
mainly over the high country and far eastern plains. The main
risks with storms on Saturday will be outflow winds gusting to 50
mph, small hail, and frequent lightning. Very hot and dry
conditions are expected across the plains and mountain valleys on
Saturday, please use caution if working outdoors, and avoid
activities that could start a fire!

Hot and dry conditions are forecast for Sunday, with a return of
moisture Monday through the end of the week. Daily chances for
showers and thunderstorms will begin again Monday, with the mid
week period seeing the greatest coverage. The main threats from
thunderstorms will be lightning, heavy rainfall and gusty outflow
winds.

and evening across the foothills into the plains. A few stronger
storms could produce hail and gusty winds, mainly along and east
of I-25.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday

Warmer and drier weather is forecast this weekend into early next
week, with highs in the 90s. Moisture is expected to return by the
middle of next week, with chances for showers and thunderstorms
returning by Tuesday or Wednesday.

Spotter activation will not be needed today or tonight, but
reports of heavy rainfall, hail, or strong winds will be

Colorado, west central Colorado, east central Utah, northeast Utah
and southeast Utah.

Isolated storms are possible this afternoon over the San Juans and
the higher terrain mainly along the Divide. Gusty winds are the
primary concern with any storms that form. Hazy to smokey skies will
be present as well due to smoke from northern Arizona wildfires.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday.

Hot, dry, and windy conditions develop this weekend, creating
widespread critical fire weather conditions particularly on
Saturday. Moisture potentially returns early next week, eroding
critical fire weather conditions.
