Areas of Excessive Rainfall; Watching for Tropical Cyclone Development in the Atlantic

Heavy to excessive rainfall Wednesday may bring areas of flash and urban flooding over portions of the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys. In Arizona and New Mexico, heavy to excessive rainfall from monsoon thunderstorms may bring isolated flash and urban flooding Thursday into Saturday. NOAAPort Overview

The Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) Satellite Broadcast Network (SBN) system provides a one-way broadcast of NOAA environmental data and information in near-real time to NOAA and external users. This AWIPS SBN (managed by the AWIPS Network Control Facility (NCF)) service is operated by a commercial provider of satellite communications utilizing a C-band frequency. Weather data (satellite imagery, radar data, model data, sensor data, etc.) is collected and processed across the Weather Enterprise and then fed to the AWIPS Program Network Control Facility, which disseminates the products via the AWIPS Satellite Broadcast Network (SBN) / NOAAPort data broadcast via the Galaxy 31 Satellite. 

Currently, all National Weather Service (NWS) products are evolving with greater resolution, additional details, and conversions from text base to a digital format, increasing bandwidth requirements over the AWIPS SBN. The AWIPS SBN Program, as a part of its mission, is continuing to try and accommodate the ever-increasing data demands imposed on the system by external programs, including the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS), the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites-R (GOES-R series), dual-polarization radar, and numerical prediction model enhancements.
