Photographs of Funnel Cloud near Portland, September 1, 2001

These photographs were taken by Nathan Knight southwest of Portland (Sumner County) around 5:00 p.m. on September 1. Only light showers were occurring in the area. Many persons saw weak rotation with the funnel cloud. At times, it was reportedly quite close to the ground, and "bounced" up and down for about 30 minutes, although it proved harmless. This funnel cloud is similar to what meteorologists call "cold air funnels," although the air temperature in this instance was probably in the 70's.
