The Office of the Assistant Chief Information Officer for Weather Services provides the focal point for policy oversight, analysis, planning and execution of information technology (IT) within NWS. The Office manages a comprehensive program of IT systems investment, planning, and review to ensure high quality, cost-effective IT initiatives. The Office provides overall planning and policy oversight for the NWS use of the Internet, and develops NWS telecommunications policies and guidance. It provides headquarters IT support services through management of the NWS Headquarters LAN/WAN and nationwide e-mail systems, and provides computer system support to NWS components in the functional areas of web publishing, office automation, work-station repair and maintenance, desktop administration and services, purchasing, management and executive information systems, and human resources and financial management systems. The Office is responsible for implementation of a comprehensive and robust program to effectively manage IT programs, and projects per NOAA guidance and within NWS portfolio structure and to ensure IT investment is viewed holistically across NWS’ portfolios. The Office ensures the exploration, implementation, and migration to enterprise information services deemed in the best interest of NWS’ mission. The Office oversees development of a data architecture/strategic data management plan for increased accessibility, interoperability, and stewardship of data including implementation of geospatial information services (GIS). Coordinating with the Office of Dissemination, the Office is responsible for overseeing NWS’ contribution to NOAA/DOC/Administration data dissemination initiatives. The Office provides all enterprise IT security services including continuous monitoring of FISMA systems, Assessment, Accreditations, and Auditing of FISMA systems, and IT Security technical implementations, Security Incident Response, and Information System Security Officer support.
