Cloudy and cold conditions will be expected today across the Rio Grande valley and the rest of deep south Texas. Expect for the remaining sub-freezing temperatures this morning to rise gradually into the mid to upper 30s this afternoon with wind chills or “feels like” temperatures still in the upper 20s and 30s. Patchy icy spots will be possible across the roadways this morning, especially on any bridges or overpasses. Motorists please use caution by slowing down and taking extra time on reaching your destination. Get the latest up-to-date road conditions at drivetexas.org.
Here is the latest timing estimate for the potential of wintry mix consisting of sleet and freezing rain across deep south Texas for today into Wednesday. Roads will become slippery with any icy conditions and will result in difficult travel conditions, including during rush hour Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. Slow down and use caution while driving. The latest road conditions for the state can be obtained by calling 511 or visiting drivetexas.org. Outside of the wintry precipitation chances, expect a soggy day with overcast skies and light rain or drizzle.
Arctic cold air remains across deep south Texas and multiple winter weather hazards are in effect. Conditions will be dangerous for anyone or anything left exposed. From people to pets, plants to pipes - make sure everything is secured, warmed, sheltered and prepared. Stay safe, stay warm!
Hazardous marine conditions will continue across the Laguna Madre and the lower Texas Gulf waters in wake of this morning’s cold front. A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for the nearshore and offshore coastal Gulf waters from 0 to 60 nautical miles out until 6 pm Wednesday. Small craft should exercise caution on the Laguna Madre today.
There is a high risk of rip currents today at the area beaches due to continued elevated wave action. Swimming is not recommended today for all swimmers as life threatening rip currents are likely within the surf zone. Expect overcast skies today with cold conditions and breezy northerly winds. Not a good day to be on the beach.
