Heavy snow expected over the Inter-mountain West; Lake Effect Snow will finally diminish on Saturday

A series of storm systems will continue bring heavy snowfall to much of the Inter-mountain West through the weekend. Snow will also spread onto the northern Plains, with travel difficulties possible. Northerly winds will continue to lighten tonight with cold temperatures persisting through the overnight hours. Lows will range from the lower to middle 40s, so be sure to dress in an extra layer or two tonight and tomorrow morning. A Small Craft Advisory continues through Midnight for the marine areas off the Lower Texas Coast, as winds and seas remain elevated.
Coastal flooding has been reported along the beaches of South Padre Island and Boca Chica beach this afternoon. Easterly swells will continue to combine with wind-driven waves to run up beaches and cover narrow beaches, especially along access points 5 and 6. Driving is expected to be difficult to near impossible in some locations. High tide will occur at 9:35 pm this evening, with tides running around 1.5 feet above predicted heights. A Small Craft Advisory will continue for all coastal and offshore waters of lower Texas through at least Midnight.
Cool temperatures are expected through Saturday as high pressure continues to build, with a return towards normal and above normal temperatures expected by the end of the weekend and into mid next week with highs near and into the low 80s. Dry conditions expected along much of South Texas, with a chance of showers along mainly the coastal areas early Saturday.
