PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT...AMENDED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PEACHTREE CITY GA
315 PM EST TUE NOV 21 2006

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORECAST OFFICE IN PEACHTREE CITY
CONDUCTED A STORM SURVEY OF A REPORTED TORNADO TOUCHDOWN AT THE
FORT BENNING POST IN GEORGIA. THE SURVEY CONCLUDED AN F1 TORNADO
TOUCHED DOWN AT 3 PM EST ON NOVEMBER 15TH AND TRAVELED AT LEAST
1.75 MILES. MAXIMUM WIND SPEED WAS ESTIMATED TO BE AROUND 90 MPH.

THE DAMAGE PATH BEGAN AT THE INTERSECTION OF LAVOIE AND SIGHTSEEING
ROADS AND EXTENDED NORTH-NORTHEAST ACROSS WOLD...VIBBERT...AND UPTON
ROADS AND INTO THE MCDONALD MANOR HOUSING AREA. MINOR TO MODERATE
DAMAGE OCCURRED ALONG THIS PATH. ABOUT 10 WAREHOUSE STRUCTURES LOST
ROOF SECTIONS OR WALLS. ROOF DEBRIS FROM ONE OF THE WAREHOUSES FELL
ON TWO VEHICLES CAUSING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. SMALL PORTIONS OF ROOFING
AND WALL FACING ON THREE BASE BARRACKS WERE TORN OFF AND TWO LIGHT
POLES AT A BASKETBALL COURT WERE BLOWN DOWN.

THE END POINT OF THE PATH WAS DETERMINED BY A SECOND STORM SURVEY TO
BE ONE QUARTER MILE INSIDE THE MUSCOGEE COUNTY LINE STILL ON THE
FORT BENNING MILITARY RESERVATION. THE END POINT OF THE TORNADO
DAMAGE WAS JUST NORTH OF A POND WHICH WAS NEXT TO UPATOI CREEK AND
AROUND ONE HALF MILE WEST OF THE POST GATE ON CUSTER ROAD. THE
DAMAGE FOUND WAS A LARGE UPROOTED OAK TREE AT LEAST 3 FEET IN
DIAMETER...A BROKEN TOP OFF OF A HARDWOOD TREE...AND SEVERAL LARGE
LIMBS TWISTED OR BROKEN OFF HARDWOOD TREES.

IN THE FAMILY HOUSING AREA...DAMAGE WAS CAUSED MAINLY BY THE FALLING
OF LARGE TREE BRANCHES AND AT LEAST TWO LARGE TREES. AT LEAST SIX
HOUSES RECEIVED MODERATE ROOF DAMAGE FROM THESE FALLING BRANCHES AND
TREES. SEVERAL CARS SUFFERED MINOR WINDOW DAMAGE FROM DEBRIS ALONG
THE PATH OF THE TORNADO.

SIX MINOR INJURIES WERE REPORTED BY THE MEDIA AS A RESULT OF THIS
TORNADO.

A TORNADO WARNING WAS ISSUED BY THE NWS IN PEACHTREE CITY FOR
CHATTAHOOCHEE AND MUSCOGEE COUNTIES AT 259 PM EST ON THAT DAY.
