Tornado Warning

Tag: Radar Indicated

Evidence on radar and near storm environments is supportive of a tornado, but not confirmed.

Tag: Catastrophic

Used when a severe threat to human life and catastrophic damage from a tornado is occurring; only used when reliable sources confirm a violent tornado.


 

Severe Thunderstorm Warning

Tag: Destructive

Used for thunderstorms with hail at least 2.75 inches in diameter (baseball-sized) and/or thunderstorm winds of at least 80 miles per hour.



Flash Flood Warning

Tag: [Dam or Levee] Failure

Used to provide additional information about the status of the failing dam or levee, whether it is “imminent” or “occurring”.



Snow Squall Warning

Tag: Significant

Used only when snow squalls pose a substantial threat to safe travel.
