Team Charter
for
Water Resources Internet Mapping


Vision: The optimal use of NWS resources in serving georeferenced water resources information on the Internet.

Mission: To recommend a coherent and cost effective water resources Internet mapping strategy.

The team will:
Document requirements for water resources Internet mapping.
Inventory current Internet mapping technologies stating advantages and shortcomings.
Evaluate alternatives to determine technology that best fits the requirements.

Goal: Recommend an NWS corporate approach to water resources Internet mapping.

Scope and Authority:
Recommendations must be realistic
Analysis must be objective and unbiased
Decisions based on consensus agreement
Staff time and any necessary travel expenses will be covered by the team members' organization.
Additional resources may be requested from the Regions or National Headquarters.

Termination Date: The team will be formed and commence activities in September, 2001. It will remain in place until April, 2002.

Success Criteria: Produce a final report that recommends an NWS corporate approach to water resources Internet mapping by April, 2002. The report will be made available to the NWS Corporate Board for review.


Team Membership: The team will be made up of at least four Regional representatives and one each from the Office of Hydrologic Development, the Office of Climate, Water, and Weather Services' Hydrologic Services Division, and the Office of Science and Technology. The team leader will be chosen by the team. Additional personnel from the Regions or Headquarters may participate as resources without being official team members.
