Heat Wave Expands to the East Coast; Flash Flooding Likely in the Central Plains into the Midwest; Severe Thunderstorms in the Northeast

Dangerous, prolonged heat is ongoing in the Mid-South to Mid-Mississippi Valley and heat expands into the Northeast for a brief period today. Widely scattered instances of flash flooding due to heavy rains are forecast from northeast Kansas to much of Indiana. Convection from the tropical wave are expected to persist through tonight and showers and thunderstorms could affect areas in the Coastal Bend.
Locally heavy rainfall is in the forecast through the end of this weekend for parts of South Texas as a disturbance moves across the region. Any storms that develop will be capable of producing high rainfall rates leading to flash flooding. Continue to check back for future updates.
Scattered thunderstorms are expected again today especially in the eastern portions of the region. Highs are forecast to remain below 100 today across the region thanks to the increased cloud cover.
Expect mostly cloudy skies today across area beaches with highs in the upper 80s and a low to medium chance for showers and thunderstorms. Winds will be light out of the south around 15 mph. There is a MODERATE risk of rip currents today.
Activity is expected to dwindle overnight with humid conditions expected once again. Lows will be in the upper 70s to around 80.
South Texas 5 day extended forecast. A slight warming trend and drier conditions can be expected as we progress through the week.
