Dangerous Heat in the Central and Eastern U.S.; Severe Thunderstorms in the Great Lakes

Thunderstorms with strong wind gusts and hail will be possible today from Michigan into the Lower Great Lakes region. Damage surveys by the National Weather Service and Shawano County emergency management confirmed a weak tornado hit a few miles northwest and north of Gresham during the afternoon of May 17. The tornado first touched down about 3:31 pm and produced intermittent tree damage along a nearly five mile long path, dissipating at 3:40 pm. The tornado was witnessed at a farm northwest of Gresham. This is the first tornado in Wisconsin this year.

The tornado was associated with a "mini" supercell thunderstorm and produced only minor damage.
