August 2016 is in the books, and it's been a warm month overall. In fact, Milwaukee tied with 1947 for the 4th warmest August on record. Madison, while a bit cooler, tied with two other years for the 20th warmest August on record.

Below are tables showing where Milwaukee and Madison rank for the top warmest Augusts on record. For reference, the average monthly temperatures for the entire month of August for Milwaukee and Madison are 70.7º F and 69.2º F, respectively. Milwaukee was 4.9º F above the average for August, while Madison was 3.2º F above the average.

Longest streak of consecutive 80+ degree days for the month of August for Milwaukee

Not only was August 2016 warm, we've also experienced our longest consecutive streak of 80+ degree days for the month of August on record! The first 20 days of August had high temperatures 80 degrees or warmer, which broke the previous record set in 2010, from August 1 to 16 (16 days). A 75 degree high on August 21st stopped the count. This streak of 20 days was also two days short of the annual record of 80+ degree days for Milwaukee, which was from June 28 to July 19, 1921!
