Major Early Spring Storm Impacting the Country

Heavy snow, significant ice accumulations, and blizzard conditions are likely across parts of the Northern Plains into the Upper Great Lakes. South of the winter weather, a regional outbreak of severe storms with some flash flooding is expected across parts of the Mid-Mississippi Valley and Mid-South into the Ohio Valley. About Great Lakes Beach Forecasts & Statements: They are issued seasonally for the U.S. side of Lake Erie, Lake Huron, Lake Michigan, Lake Ontario, and Lake Superior from roughly Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend (weather dependent). Beach forecasts contain a daily swim risk, which is based on that days threat of high waves and dangerous currents. Beach hazard statements provide additional details on high swim risk days.

 

As of September 30, 2022 the Surf Zone Forecast has ended across the Great Lakes for the season. The Surf Zone Forecast for the Great Lakes will resume in late May 2023.
