Fire Weather Concerns for a Large Part of the Central U.S.; Severe Weather in the Central Plains

Dry and windy conditions will bring widespread fire weather concerns to the northern/central Plains and portions of the Southwest into the southern Plains. Severe thunderstorms with large hail and damaging wind gusts are possible over the central Plains today into this weekend. Patchy frost is possible tonight in colder spots, as temperatures generally fall into the mid to upper 30s away from Lake Michigan. Below are statistics for the first freeze of Fall (32°).

Most locations have not yet fallen below 40 degrees since last spring. This year joins roughly 10% of the years on record to not have a low temperature below 40 degrees by this point in the season.
