Cold and Windy Weather on the Way

Over the coming days, some of the coldest air of the season will move into Southcentral. When making your outdoor plans this weekend, be prepared for bitterly cold temperatures and gusty winds across Southcentral. Temperatures will steadily fall over the next couple days and bottom out Monday morning, with below zero temperatures expected across nearly all of Southcentral. The wind will make it feel even colder, with wind chill readings well below zero for most areas. The most dangerous conditions will be the northern Susitna Valley and northern Copper River Basin where wind chill readings will reach 30 to 50 below. Those recreating in area mountains exposed to the stronger winds can also expect similar wind chill readings. These wind chills will result in frostbite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken.
