F1 Tornado in Marion County near Hamilton - April 7th, 2006

An F1 tornado touched down approximately 5 miles northwest of Hamilton near Westin at 855 PM . The tornado damage path was 9.4 miles long and was 50 yards wide at its widest point. The tornado moved northeastward and lifted at approximately 904 PM near State Highway 187. Numerous trees were either snapped off aloft or blown down. Multiple power lines were also knocked down. The top of a barn was completely torn off. Several homes received roof damage, ranging from missing shingles to portions of roofs being lifted off. One car was completely totalled due to numerous trees falling on it. One woman was killed when she ran into a downed tree along State Highway 187. Another person was injured by fallen trees. New Hope Church had its porch completely destroyed, along with minor damage to other portions of the building. A Tornado Warning was issued for Marion County from 820 PM CDT until 915 PM CDT.

Additional thunderstorms produced wind damage across the remainder of Marion County. These storms knockd down numerous trees and power lines in several locations.
