The National Centers for Environmental Information released statewide average temperature rankings for each state for this past September. Wisconsin didn't just have an above average warm September...this map shows that this was the warmest September ever on record. The ranking is determined by averaging statewide temperatures for the month of September for the period 1895 to 2015, with zero being the coldest September on record and 121 as the warmest September on record. With a rank of 121st, September 2015 was the warmest September ever for the state of Wisconsin! In fact, we aren't the only state who broke this record. Minnesota, Michigan, Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Maine all experienced the warmest September on record too, and several other states broke into the Top 10 warmest Septembers!

The map below shows just how much warmer/colder it was from average across the United States. Across Wisconsin, temperatures were 3 and 9 degrees above seasonal averages for September 2015, with the majority of the state seeing temperatures between 6 and 9 degrees above average for September!
