Hurricane Lowell to Impact Kauai; Heat Continues in the South-Central U.S.

Hurricane Lowell is forecast to pass west of Kauai today. Impacts such as high surf and heavy rain could impact all of the islands. A Hurricane Warning is in effect for Kauai, Niihau and the surrounding coastal waters. Severe thunderstorms will be possible near a cold front on Wednesday afternoon into evening across northern Oklahoma. Damaging wind gusts and hail are the primary thunderstorm hazards.

Triple-digit temperatures and heat indices continue on Tuesday. A Heat Advisory is in effect through 7 PM Tuesday.

The arrival of a cold front will bring about at least a brief pattern change, including chances for more widespread/numerous showers and thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon into Thursday.

Our prolonged heatwave continues through Wednesday prior to the arrival of a cold front. The front will offer the highest potential for precipitation we've seen in some time across the area.

Local Weather History For September 8th...

The remains of Tropical Storm Hermine moved through northern Texas
and southern Oklahoma on September 8th, 2010, bringing several bands
of heavy rain and thunderstorms. At least three brief tornadoes were
reported, with the most destructive tornado rated EF-1 near Colbert,
in Bryan county, where a couple of homes were damaged and two trucks
were overturned on Highway 69. The other tornadoes, producing minor
damage, were seen just northwest of Lone Grove and just south of
Marietta.
