Expected continued hot and mostly sunny conditions today, with a few storms developing during the afternoon. Heat Index values will top out in the upper 90s to around 100 degrees most areas west of the Cumberland Plateau. Rain and storm chances will increase beginning on Monday, with medium to high rain chances continuing into next weekend. Temperatures will back off some by the middle of the week. The risk of severe storms is very low, however, any thunderstorm may produce gusty winds, lightning and brief, heavy downpours.

On July 6, 1930...It is a sultry day in one of the most oppressive
heat waves in Middle Tennessee history. The high at Nashville reaches
99 degrees, following a morning low of 76. The mean temperature of 88
degrees sets a record for this date. The temperature at Tullahoma and
Waynesboro also climbs to 99 degrees. Franklin and McMinnville hit
100; Dover, 101; and Lewisburg, 103.
