...Rainfall totals were above normal for the Midlands and CSRA...
The month of August began with Hurricane Isaias brushing the South
Carolina coast on the afternoon and evening of the 3rd before making
landfall near Holden Beach, North Carolina. A combination of a
frontal boundary in the region and moisture ahead of Isaias produced
rainfall amounts from one half inch up to around 3 inches across
portions of the Midlands and Central Savannah River Area.
Otherwise, August began with a steady dose of afternoon and evening
showers and thunderstorms along with very muggy conditions. However,
by the end of the month rainfall became more widely scattered and
some locations went several days without any rainfall. Temperatures
through the month stayed close to or just above normal for the
month.

August 6th...A weak area of low pressure along a stalled frontal just
west of the region produced locally heavy rainfall. Slow moving
strong to severe thunderstorms produced flash flooding along with
strong damaging winds. Flash flooding occurred near Columbia in the
St. Andrews area. Rainfall totals of 3 to 5 inches fell in less than
2 hours producing high water from swollen creeks and streams.
Multiple vehicles were flooded in parking lots of apartments that
ran along Stoop Creek. Additional flooding occurred along Corley
Mill road where Twelve Mile Creek flows.
