...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SURVEY TEAM CONFIRMS A TORNADO IN
CALHOUN COUNTY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CONDUCTED A STORM SURVEY IN CALHOUN
COUNTY APPROXIMATELY 9 MILES WEST-NORTHWEST OF ST. MATTHEWS. RESULTS
DETERMINED THAT AN EF-1 TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN NEAR SUNNY PLAIN ROAD
AND CONTINUED TO MOVE NORTHEAST MOVING ACROSS OTT SISTERS ROAD
BEFORE DISSIPATING NEAR I-26. THE WIND SPEED WAS ESTIMATED TO RANGE
BETWEEN 105 MPH TO 110 MPH. THE APPROXIMATE LENGTH OF THE TORNADO
PATH WAS 1 MILE. THE TORNADO WAS 200 YARDS WIDE AT ITS WIDEST POINT.
THE TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN AROUND 420 PM SUNDAY AFTERNOON. ESTIMATED
DAMAGE COSTS AT THIS TIME ARE UNKNOWN.

THE MOST SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE WAS ALONG OTT SISTERS ROAD WHERE A
SINGLE WIDE MOBILE HOME WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. THERE WERE 2
INJURIES ASSOCIATED WITH THE DESTROYED MOBILE HOME. THE INJURIES
WERE NOT LIFE THREATENING BUT 1 MALE AND 1 FEMALE IN THEIR 60S WERE
SENT TO THE HOSPITAL. ANOTHER AREA OF SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE WAS BETWEEN
SUNNY PLAIN ROAD AND OTT SISTERS ROAD. THERE WAS SIGNIFICANT TREE
DAMAGE WITH A FEW TREES SNAPPED OFF. A TREE FELL ON A SINGLE WIDE
MOBILE HOME DAMAGING THE ROOF AND BATHROOM. THERE WERE 7 ADDITIONAL
HOMES WITH DAMAGE ALONG WITH 6 SHED OR OUT BUILDINGS.
