The storms downed trees and power lines along with nickel sized hail. The main areas were across the central Midlands along with Burke County Georgia. June 9th and 10th...Strong to severe thunderstorms developed ahead of a cold front on the 9th and as the front moved into the area on the 10th. The storms on the 9th downed trees and power lines across the northern and central Midlands. Lancaster County experienced the most damage with numerous trees down. Maximum wind gusts were estimated to be around 70 to 85 mph. The straight line wind damage began in eastern Chester County. In Lancaster County, the more substantial damage occurred in the western part of the county, from just southwest of Lancaster down through the Irwin, Bell Town, and Blakely Crossroads areas. Numerous large hardwood trees were uprooted and many large branches snapped and power lines downed, with the most significant damage in Irwin and and along Highway 200 south through the county border. The county Emergency Manager reported one indirect injury when a person drove into a downed tree on Highway 97 near Ember Lane. This was the focus for slow moving strong to severe thunderstorms that produced locally heavy rainfall and strong wind gusts. Heavy rain fell across Columbia, Richmond, McDuffie and Burke Counties on the 6th. Rainfall amounts ranged from 2 inches up to 7 inches across portions of Columbia County. This produced flooding along several streams that flooded homes, businesses and roadways in the area. July 17th...An unusually deep trough over the region combined with a very hot and humid environment to produce strong to severe storms that produced damaging wind gusts. Tree were reported down from the central Midlands to the CSRA. July 19th...A stationary front across the Midlands was the focus for slow moving thunderstorms that produced locally heavy rainfall. Flood Stage is 7.2 feet. A car was trapped and partially submerged with the occupants having to be rescued. July 24th and 25th...The same airmass that produced damaging winds and flash flooding on the 23rd continued across the area on the 24th and 25th. Another round of flash flooding occurred along Rocky Branch Creek as it crested at 9.33 feet. The storms downed a tree in Newberry County across a roadway that resulted in an accident. On the 25th, thunderstorms produced heavy rain that produced flash flooding across Newberry County. Rainfall amounts from 2 to 3 inches produce flooding along Hwy. 176 and in the Town of Prosperity. July 30th and 31st...Several disturbances moved from northwest to southeast across the central Midlands. The disturbance combined with a very hot and moist atmosphere produce several strong to sever thunderstorms. The storms produced strong damaging winds, hail and flash flooding across the area. 1 inch hail was reported in Aiken County with some reports in the area of hail covering the ground. The storm downed trees across the central Midlands and produced minor flooding along Rocky Branch Creek. The stream crested at 7.82 feet. There was no river flooding during the months of June and July.
