Significant Weather Events for March 2023...
March 3rd...An area of low pressure moved from the Lower Mississippi
River Valley northeast across the region into the Mid Atlantic
Region. This system produced a very tight pressure gradient over the
area and was associated with strong wind and wind gusts. Winds
gusted over 50 mph in a few locations.
Here is a list of some of the highest wind gusts that occurred with
the system:
...Highest Wind Gusts on Friday...
The following are the highest measured wind gusts from Friday

March 12-15th...An are of low pressure moved across the region the
12th followed by a dry cold front with an airmass that originated in
Canada. Rainfall amounts were around 1 inch, but the big issue was
the cold air that settled southward. The cold air produced
temperatures in the middle to upper 20s across the Midlands and
Central Savannah River Area on the morning of the 15th. Many
locations saw morning low temperatures near or below freezing on
the morning of the 14th and 15th. The cold temperatures produced
damage to agriculture interest in the region. Some of the crops that
were hardest hit were the peach, blueberry and strawberry crops.
Here are some of the coldest morning low temperatures on the morning
of the 15th.

March 26th-27th...A stalled frontal boundary combined with an area
of upper level energy, very moist atmosphere, moderate instability
and shear produced strong to severe thunderstorms on the 26th. Some
of these storms produced large hail and damaging winds. The system
also produced locally heavy rainfall with amounts from 2 to 3 inches
common across the Midlands and Central Savannah Rive Area. However,
some locations received amounts from 4 to 7 inches. The heavy
rainfall led to high flows on many of the area rivers along with
minor flooding along Stevens Creek and the N. Fork of the Edisto
River.
Here are some of the highest rainfall amounts from the event.
