Overview

A post-Thanksgiving synoptic snow event led to widespread snowfall across southeast Michigan. Light snow overspread the area early in the afternoon on November 29th. With more robust large-scale ascent arriving later that evening, most of the moderate to briefly heavy snow fell during the late evening and overnight hours. Snowfall totals ranged from 5 to 7 inches across the Tri-Cities and areas to the south. Closer to Lake Erie, Lake St. Clair, and southern Lake Huron, snowfall totals dropped off quickly.

The total amount of liquid equivalent precipitation and snow-to-liquid ratios were a challenge with this winter event. Snow ended up being much more wet and dense than originally forecast, which resulted in less overall snowfall in some areas.
