Overview

The afternoon period across portions of Southeast Michigan saw active weather on Tuesday, June 9th. Temperatures through the morning warmed up into the upper 70s and lower 80s, with dewpoints hovering in the low 70s.  The ample moisture and backed winds, coupled with a boundary draped over the area, allowed for scattered storms to rotate.  One particular storm had a strong enough rotation to produce an EF-1 tornado in Freeland, Michigan.  Other storms did produce heavy rainfall, with totals ranging from 1 inch to 2-2.5 inches in the Plymouth to Farmington area.  There was another brief tornado near Montrose, Michigan that was captured on video, however, there was no associated damage as the tornado tracked through a field.  The Montrose tornado was given an EF-U (unknown) rating. Tornadoes that fail to impact any ratable damage indicators on the EF-Scale are rated EF-Unknown (EF-U).
