Overview

The Storm Prediction Center placed much of our area into an Enhanced Risk (level 3 of 5) for severe weather for Thursday, March 26th. Storms developed in northern Illinois during the late afternoon and moved east into northern Indiana ahead of and along a strong cold front. There were also storms that developed in far northeast Indiana and into northwest Ohio along a modified lake breeze boundary that had come off of Lake Michigan. Storms took on a mixed mode throughout the evening with a few cells remaining discrete and others congealing in to bowing segments/clusters. Large hail was noted with the discrete cells; much of the hail was 1-2" although there were a few reports closer to 3". There were also sporadic wind damage reports across the area consistent with 60 mph winds. An NWS survey team confirmed two tornadoes from the evening of March 26th. An EF-0 tornado occurred southeast of La Fontaine in Wabash County. Not long after, another EF-0 tornado touched down near Banquo in Huntington County that tracked into far northern Grant County. |
